The 1856-C half eagle is a scarce coin in any grade. Most surviving examples seen are in a very low grade or damaged. As a matter of fact the 1846-C half eagle was one of the U.S. gold coins that was thought to be unknown in a Mint State grade as little as two decades ago. There have been a few high grade pieces that have surfaced over the years. This fine example graded MS61 by NGC is a formidable rarity and an excellent addition to your collection!
